MARK ROTHKO PAINTING VANDALISED AT TATE MODERN
Today the Tate Modern in London was temporarily shut down after someone defaced a Mark Rothko Seagram mural, tagging it with black paint. A similar Rothko painting called “Orange, red, yellow” was recently sold at Christie’s New York for $86.9 million USD (approx. £53.8m). The reasons for the vandalism are currently unknown, as is the perpetrator, but police are currently working with Tate to investigate the incident. Someone at the scene tweeted ”This guy calmly walked up, took out a marker pen and tagged it. Surreal.”
